playforPLACE is an itinerant contemporary performance workshop that explores the function and the performative potential of the act of Playing, considering its crucial role in culture and society. In each selected location sofia mavragani invites a local artist in order to co-create one reflective and actual workshop game, which will lead to a public presentation.
The workshop insists on the practice of collective teaching and artistic collaboration based on experiential exchange. It investigates the inherent power of playing and its unique nature to transform the real into the imaginative, the serious into the droll, the actual locality into an unexpected one.
Applying the characteristics of Play in all phases of research and creation, we explore innovative movement material based on the attributes of the Playing Body, we encourage personal ideas and we test dynamic composition strategies. The work develops the performing and physical skills of participants by activating focused awareness, imagination and a lively sense of exchange and collaboration.
playforPLACE is mainly interested in playing with the dynamics of a varied group of people. Therefore, it welcomes dancers, actors, musicians, professionals and everyday people. People with an interest and talent for playfulness!
